Illegal immigrant presented other man's documents, court hears

He told police he had found the labour card on the ground and used it as his own, prosecutors say.

DUBAI // An unemployed man is charged with using identification cards belonging to another man and presenting them to police, a Dubai court heard this morning.

AM, 27, from Pakistan, entered the country illegally and used and presented a valid official document to police despite not being the documents' owner, prosecutors said. He confessed to the charges.

He will be referred to the Court of Misdemeanours separately on charges he used a different name and entered the country illegally.

TH, a 48-year-old corporal at the Rashidiya police station told prosecutors that while he was patrolling the area with two other officers, he thought AM looked suspicious and stopped him.

TH said that when he asked him for an ID, the defendant gave him a labour card. He said noticed that the card had been used to file a report at the Jebel Ali police station.

He testified he checked with the station and found out the card belonged to another man.

AM then confessed to finding the card in Bur Dubai and using it. He said he did not know who the real owner was.

The next hearing will be on March 30.
