Husband and wife burglars jailed for Dh100,000 Dubai apartment theft

The Dubai Criminal Court also sentenced the wife's brother to six months in prison and deportation on a charge of stealing a further Dh12,000.

DUBAI // A husband and wife who burgled an apartment stealing more than Dh100,000 worth of jewellery were yesterday each jailed for a year.

T?A, from Sudan, and his Romanian wife K?A, both 29, will be deported after serving their prison terms.

The Criminal Court also sentenced the wife’s brother, L?A, 33, to six months for stealing Dh12,000 in cash and other items.

An unrelated female, A?D, 25, from Moldovia, was cleared of forceful theft.

The man and his brother-in-law tricked the owner of an apartment in Al Mankhool into letting them in by using fake police identity cards and a fake search warrant.

They tied up the owner and a friend of his before robbing the flat and leaving to meet up with the man’s wife.

They removed the memory card of a surveillance camera in the flat but other cameras in the building recorded them getting into two cars.

Police officers from Al Rafaa station traced the cars and arrested them.

In court the three denied burglary, with the husband saying he was visiting to collect his mother-in-law’s passport.

He did not explain why the passport would be at the apartment.
