DUBAI // A woman threatened to attack her ex-husband's sister with acid before a custody battle for her children, a court heard yesterday.

MA, 33, from Iran, is accused of threatening her former sister-in-law, SH, 36, by saying: "Just you wait three days and I'll send someone to pour acid on your face and I know that your children are not from your husband."

Prosecutors told the Misdemeanours Court she made the threat last June at the Dubai Courts complex, during a custody battle for her children.

The woman was charged with threatening behaviour and insulting the honour of her former sister-in-law, who is her cousin.

The accused told police she had been waiting for the custody hearing when her former sister-in-law verbally abused her.

"She was the one who insulted me, saying I was a whore," the woman said. "She also told me to dream about seeing my children."

FA, 64, the former mother-in-law of the accused, was also at the hearing and said she also had been insulted. "We left the court, and as we reached the main gate she came from inside and stood next to us then started threatening and insulting myself and my daughter," she said.

The woman was not present in court to enter a plea. The case was adjourned until May 21.
