DUBAI // A housewife was convicted today of sexually exploiting an underaged girl in a brothel she ran.
The Emirati SM, 48, was convicted in the Criminal Court of First Instance along with a housemaid from the Philippines, SY, 45; and TS, 60, an accountant from Syria.
They were sentenced to nine months each for operating a brothel, consensual sex and crimnal complicity.
An Iranian man, AA, 33, was sentenced to three months for having sex with the Emirati while FM, 23, an Ethiopian housemaid, was sentenced to six months for prostitution.
The Juvenile Court is currently reviewing the underage girl's case; she is facing consensual sex charges.
Prosecution records show that TS and SY ran the brothel for a year at an apartment in Muteena. When police raided the flat in May, the underage girl was found naked.
SM exploited the girl and took half the money she earned, prosecutors say. SY arranged customers' visits and handled payments, while TS provided with women to work in the brothel.
All five had denied the charges.
They have two weeks to file an appeal at the court.
