Housewife claims assault by fake delivery man

Prosecutors say he followed woman into her bedroom and attacked her.

DUBAI // A housewife told prosecutors a man had sexually assaulted her in her home after bluffing his way inside, a Dubai court heard this morning.

The unemployed suspect, KR, 28, from Pakistan did not appear before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance to defend himself.

According to court records, he entered the house of the Chinese victim on September 25, 2010, after ringing the bell and presenting a bag of fruit.

The victim ZN, 29, told prosecutors she had called the supermarket to send some groceries and thought KR was the supermarket delivery man.

ZN said she allowed the suspect into the house thinking her husband was a few steps behind him. She then went to her bedroom to change clothes, her testimony shows.

KR is accused of following her to her room, pushing her against a wall, ripping off her clothes and assaulting her.
She told prosecutors she grabbed her mobile phone and tried calling her husband, but KR grabbed her hair, threw her to the ground and sat on her back.

She said he began sexually assaulting her but froze when the doorbell rang again.

The building security guard, SM, pushed the flat's door open and rushed to the bedroom after hearing ZN screaming, records said. He testified he ZN struggling to get away from KR.

SM told prosecutors he tried to grab KR, but KR escaped. He said the victim’s husband had called him and asked him to check on his wife.

The next hearing was scheduled for March 24.
