Ex-wife to testify in Arnold trial
DUBAI // The estranged wife of Mark Arnold will testify in court after two prosecution witnesses again failed to appear yesterday in his murder trial. Mr Arnold, a 42-year-old British businessman, was charged in April with murdering Kerry Winter, 35, his South African former girlfriend, last year. Her body has not been recovered. The witnesses, identified as a Pakistani and a Briton, have failed to testify over the past four months, leaving Mr Arnold's ex-wife as the last prosecution witness. She is scheduled to give evidence on October 8.
Prosecutors told the Court of First Instance that the witnesses had failed to appear because their addresses were not registered with execution officers so they could not be subpoenaed. Mr Arnold, who appeared distraught after the adjournment, remained silent throughout the rest of the hearing. Yousif Hammad, his defence lawyer, said his client was disappointed the case had been delayed again. Mr Arnold told the court his Jaguar XKR and Bayliner 265 boat remain seized by authorities, despite assurances to his lawyer and his estranged wife that they would be returned.
