DUBAI // An Emirates Airline employee assigned to help solve passengers' luggage problems but instead helped himself to their belongings will spend three months in prison, a Dubai court ruled this morning.

AB, a 43-year-old Moroccan, worked for the airline at the Terminal 3 departures building. He had denied the charges before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance in April.

AH, a manager at the airline, told prosecutors AB was a customer-service representative. He testified that AB was also responsible for helping baggage movers tag luggage that had been left behind, then storing it in the found-items section and informing police.

AN, 33, a police corporal at Dubai International Airport, said officers received a tip about AB and placed him under close observation.

He said police were told AB stressed to passengers who were carrying excess baggage that they should leave their luggage behind to avoid paying extra fees, records show.

AB was caught asking movers to carry luggage left by some passengers to his car, AN told prosecutors.

AB was also fined Dh848.
