DUBAI // An Emirates Post employee has admitted embezzling almost Dh100,000 by tricking companies into paying more than they needed to for Emirates ID cards.

AA, 33, a Filipina, would collect the application fees then forge receipts suggesting the companies had paid less than they should.

Prosecutors told the Criminal Court that in doing so she managed to embezzle Dh97,495 between March to October 2012. Her scam was uncovered during a financial audit.

Prosecutors charged her with embezzlement, forgery of official documents, and use of forged official documents.

In court she confessed, saying she had sent the money to the Philippines to pay for the medical treatment of her sick father.

She asked the court to return a swift verdict so that she could return to her home country and care for him.

A verdict is expected on March 27.
