Emirates Airline employee charged with inflating ticket prices
The employee is accused of embezzling more than Dh150,000 since 2018
An Emirates Airline employee has admitted overcharging customers for their flights.
Dubai Criminal Court heard how man, from Syria, deliberately inflated ticket prices and pocketed the difference.
Prosecutors said some customers paid between Dh60 and Dh18,000 more than they should have done.
The customer service employee, 30, is charged with embezzling Dh162,155 from the airline since 2018.
“He joined work in 2016 and was responsible for selling tickets and changing tickets dates and classes from economy to business,” the court was told.
“On September 9 last year, an audit revealed that prices of some of the tickets he sold were much higher.
“For example, he would sell a Dh5,000 ticket for Dh7,000 then pocket the difference. He said he had been doing this since September 2018.”
Appearing in court on Sunday, the defendant admitted overcharging customers. The hearing was adjourned until March 15.
