DUBAI // A woman who stabbed to death a man she claimed was trying to rape her was jailed for three years today.

E?K, 28, from Uganda, admitted knifing her compatriot S?K at his flat on April 27 last year, claiming it was self defence.

Policeman D?A told the Criminal Court she arrived at Naif station, crying and repeating that she had killed someone.

"She told me the man tried to have sex with her against her will," he added.

She confessed to premeditated murder but her defence lawyer claimed the victim could have died from stab wounds inflicted by someone else.

"Such a strong stabbing, which caused the man's ribs to break, needed someone who is physically much more stronger than my client," said Badriyya Al Ayyoubi in her defence argument.

But A?A, a Dubai police major, said he went to the flat and an onlooker told him he saw the woman in the street screaming: "I killed him, I killed him."

Police found the knife under the sofa in the victim's apartment in Fareej Al Marar. She will be deported after her prison term.
