Dubai taxi driver's unwanted advance on female passenger earns jail time

Taxi driver who tried to kiss a female passenger is sentenced to three months in prison.

DUBAI // A taxi driver who tried to kiss a female passenger has been sentenced to three months in prison.

The Criminal Court also ordered SK, a 30-year-old from Pakistan, to be deported after his prison term.

He picked up the woman in Sharjah on July 2 this year and drove to her home in Jebel Ali. When they arrived he got out of the car and took her hand as she tried to get out of the taxi. The woman tried to push him away, but he pulled her into his chest and tried to kiss her.

She complained to police and he was arrested. He told arresting officers that the woman was drunk at the time and that when he dropped her off the two of them smoked a cigarette and that when they finished he hugged her goodbye and left "without any trouble".

The court found him guilty of sexual assault.
