Dubai officer robbed men, prosecutors say
DUBAI // An off-duty policeman has been charged with theft after three Bangladeshi men accused him of robbing them in February 2010.
A court heard yesterday that A? A, 23, a CID officer, stopped the alleged victims at about midnight on February 16. He showed them his idenitification before taking two wallets from them with a combined total of Dh3,750 inside. He is also accused of stealing a Nokia mobile phone from a third man, prosecutors said.
Court records said A?A requested identification from the men, and as soon as two of them got out their wallets he snatched them and the phone from the third man before driving away.
The alleged victims told prosecutors that A?A stopped them as they were walking back to their residence in International City. They said he was accompanied by another man, who was not identified in records.
A man driving nearby witnessed the alleged incident and pulled over to ask for his ID. A?A and his accomplice drove off and the Bangladeshis then called the police.
The witness, MA, wrote down the licence plate number of the car. The next hearing is on February 13.
