A man was left with a fractured skull after a brutal attack outside a five-star Dubai hotel, a court heard.

The man, 22, was allegedly attacked soon after trying to break up a heated argument between a group of four men and another man at Jumeirah Creekside in Deira, on July 1 last year.

The peacemaker and a group of friends were confronted by the gang of four, who insulted them and accused them of harassing one of their friends.

One of the victim's friends, a policeman, said he was attacked by one of the group before hotel staff stepped in and ordered them to leave the premises.

The victim decided to head home but the defendants launched a vicious assault as he tried to get into his car, the court heard.

“One of the attackers came towards me yelling insulting words, then three others came from behind to stop me from fleeing,” the man said.

He was knocked to the ground after being struck on the forehead with a paving stone by one of the assailants, who then fled the scene.

He was taken to hospital by the policeman, who was also leaving when he witnessed the incident.

A medical report revealed the man's frontal skull bone was broken by a strong blow to the head and he required treatment for internal bleeding.

He had to have mental plates inserted in his head because of the severity of his injuries.

He still suffers from frequent headaches more than a year after the incident, A medical assessment stated.

At court on Monday, the four accused – two Emiratis and two Saudi Arabian men aged between 21 and 26 – denied charges of physical assault causing a permanent disability and issuing insults at court on Monday.

The case was adjourned until October 31.
