DUBAI // A man posted pornographic clips of children being raped and sexually abused on the internet, a court heard yesterday.

ND, a 29-year-old driver from Pakistan, was arrested after a member of the public tipped off officers from Dubai Police's electronic crimes team in March.

"After making sure the tip was correct, we raided the defendant's house where we found his computer," KH, a 30-year-old lieutenant, told the Misdemeanours Court.

The clips were found on the man's computer at his home in Port Saeed during the raid at about 1pm on April 12.

The lieutenant said the man was sharing the files with others but was not being paid for doing so. He said that during interrogations the man denied posting the clips on the internet, saying he kept them for his own use.

All of the clips involved children below 18, while some were of children under 12 being sexually assaulted.

During prosecution investigations the man again denied posting the clips on the internet, but admitted keeping them for his own viewing. He said he bought the computer five years ago, but only started viewing the clips in the two months before his arrest.

"I regret doing so," he told prosecutors.

He denied a charge of distributing pornographic recordings through the internet.

The next hearing was scheduled for October 10.
