DUBAI // A maid who fell pregnant and ran away from her employer's home for fear of getting in trouble now faces charges of prostitution and illicit sex after she slept with two men to cover her living expenses.
Indonesian ND, 35, was not present in Dubai Criminal Court this morning to face the charges, but prosecutors said she fell pregnant in December last year.
She met a man identified as only A about 15 months ago and they would meet in his van. After confirming she was pregnant, A told her to abort the child.
"He brought me some herbal medicine and had me drink it in order to get rid of the baby but it did not work. Out of fear my sponsor would find out, I ran away to live with a maid friend of mine," the defendant told prosecutors.
There, she met men who offered to give her money if she would sleep with him. A few days later, he brought her another man with the same offer.
When she was six months into her pregnancy, she felt that her only way out was to hand herself to police, which she did.
The next hearing will be held on July 21.
