DUBAI // A labourer followed a woman off a bus and groped her, the Criminal Court heard today.

EC, 28-year-old Filipina secretary, said she alighted from an RTA bus at about 8pm on September 18 this year when she noticed the man following her.

"I saw a man getting off the bus with me," she said, adding that moments later he was directly behind her. "He threw himself at me and hugged me then touched my buttocks." From shock, she lost her balance and fell to the ground.

"When I fell he tried to lift up my skirt but I stopped him - he then touched my breast and behind," said the woman, who started screaming for help.

A number of passers-by then came to help her. The labourer tried to escape but was restrained by the crowd and police were called. He was taken to Al Qusais police station.

Prosecutors said that he confessed at the police station and during prosecution's investigations. In court he denied a charge of sexual assault.

A verdict is expected on November 26.
