Dubai labourer assaulted boy, 8, who was waiting for parents

Man still on the run after court gives him five-year jail sentence.

DUBAI // An eight-year-old boy who was in a park waiting for his parents to pick him up after a Quran lesson was kidnapped and molested by a labourer, a court heard yesterday.

As the Egyptian boy played in the park on November 8 last year, the Pakistani labourer, SG, 55, grabbed the boy's hand, dragged him to the back of the park and then hugged and touched the boy inappropriately. He then forced the child to touch himself.

Afterwards, the boy sat on a staircase next to the mosque and waited for his father to arrive.

The labourer sat next to the boy and tried to talk to him, but the boy refused and turned his back to him. The labourer left a few minutes before the father arrived. The boy told his father what had happened and he reported the offence to the police.

The labourer, who remains at large, was sentenced in absentia to five years in prison at the Criminal Court for kidnapping and sexual assault.He will be deported after serving his jail term.
