A Dubai motorist tried to trick his way out of paying for a parking stay by altering the date on an expired ticket, a court heard.

The Bangladeshi man, 44, is accused of cutting out a number from a used parking ticket and pasting it onto another, to make it appear to be still valid.

He placed the forged Dh2 ticket behind the windscreen of his Toyota Corolla and parked up in front of a restaurant in the Naif area on March 5.

But a discrepancy was noticed by a parking inspector patrolling the area.

The driver of the vehicle arrived as the inspector was examining the ticket.

“I asked him to hand me the ticket and when he did I saw that he had pasted the number 5 on top of the ticket’s original date, extending its validity by two days,” said the inspector, who alerted police.

The man denied charges of forging an official document and using the altered document at Dubai Criminal Court.

A verdict is due on April 25.
