DUBAI // A prostitute who charged men Dh50 for sex had her one-year jail sentence upheld by the Appeals Court today.

NN, 22, from Uganda, was arrested with a Pakistani man on May 3 this year on suspicion of having sex outside marriage. Investigators had assumed they were in a loving relationship, but the man told prosecutors that he had paid the woman to have sex.

Police officer HA said the woman confessed to working in prostitution, saying she had done so since arriving in the UAE a few years ago. "She said she charged each man Dh50 for sex," the officer testified.

At her original trial last June the woman denied the charge at the Criminal Court but was found guilty and was sentenced to a year in prison to be followed by deportation. She then appealed the verdict, but the Appeals Court upheld the original verdict.
