Dubai court upholds farmer's five-year jail term for rape
DUBAI // The Appeals Court has upheld a five-year-jail term for a farm worker who raped his friend.
The 22-year-old, from Pakistan, had called his friend and compatriot AA, 20, on November 17 last year to invite him to his room on the farm where he worked in Al Khawaneej. The two met at about 8pm when the friend prepared dinner and the two played a game for about an hour.
When the two decided to go to sleep the farm worker asked his friend to make their beds closer together, at which point the friend grew suspicious and asked him: "Am I your wife to sleep next to you?".
A struggle then ensued after which the friend ran out of the room, but the farm worker caught up to him and apologised. When they returned to the room the farm worker locked the door and hid the key.
"He dragged me towards him and during my resistance he bit me on my shoulder and arm," said the friend.
The farm worker then raped his friend twice.
In the morning, the farm worker left the room, saying nothing, and the friend called his brother to tell him what happened. They met and he showed his brother the bite marks, after which they reported the rape to Rashidiya Police Station
Forensics experts found traces of the farmer's DNA on his friend that backed up his story.
The farm worker denied rape at the Dubai Criminal Court last March, claiming his friend made the allegation maliciously after a feud over an Dh800 debt he owed the farm worker. However, the court found him guilty on July 19.
The farm worker will be deported after completing his prison term.
