DUBAI // An Omani drug addict who told the Dubai Criminal Court that he was arrested one day after he started treating himself for addiction was sentenced to four years in prison.
SE, 32, was convicted of consuming hashish and Tramadol and will be deported after completing his sentence.
He said he had been taking drugs for "a long time", but that on April 22 he came from Oman to Dubai to start a treatment to help him quit.
"I started the treatment by myself and used smaller doses of drugs to ease the withdrawal symptoms," he said.
He told the court that he went to the Iranian hospital in Dubai on April 23 to start the treatment but was arrested the next day.
