Dubai court jails woman over Dh1.9 million sex tape blackmail plot
The Moroccan woman secretly recorded herself having sex with a Bahraini media personality before threatening to post the footage online
A woman who blackmailed a Bahraini media personality by threatening to share footage of them having sex has been hit with a six-month jail sentence.
The 22-year-old defendant demanded Dh1.9 million from the man after secretly recording their sexual encounter by hiding a camera in her bedroom.
Dubai Criminal Court heard the pair met on a networking app and agreed to meet in Bahrain.
“She told me she lived in UAE but would be visiting Bahrain soon and when she did, we met at her place and had sex,” the 39-year-old told the court.
Within days the Moroccan had sent the victim a series of WhatsApp messages warning she would post the video online if he didn't pay up.
The man refused to pay the sum and instead alerted police.
The woman denied a blackmail charge but was convicted at Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday.
