Dubai court fines woman Dh2,000 for insulting love rival

The two women were friends before getting embroiled in a love triangle.

DUBAI // A jealous woman who sent insulting text messages to a love rival has been fined Dh2,000.

HA, 34, from Morocco, sent the messages to FA, from Algeria, a former friend who believed the Moroccan was having an affair with her husband.

The Algerian said she met the Moroccan about a year ago and often visited her home before finding out about the affair. She then stopped contacting her, but from September last year began receiving insulting text messages.

"The messages included very dirty words therefore I reported her to police," said the Algerian.

The Moroccan told the Misdemeanours Court that the Algerian had made up the accusation out of spite.

However, the court found her guilty of sending insulting messages.
