DUBAI // Two female executives accused of accepting more than Dh180,000 in bribes in return for awarding company contracts have been cleared by the Criminal Court.

The two Filipinas VP, 44, and RL, 33, a sales representative and accountant who worked at the European Sea Food Company, were also cleared of stealing Dh155,000 from the company.

One of their colleagues had claimed the pair asked her in February 2011 to join them in a "side business", which involved charging unnecessary fees to customers of their company.

Prosecutors claimed an audit proved the two women had stolen from the company, and said they confessed to forging receipts.

However, the Criminal Court acquitted them of all charges and rejected a request to refer the case to the Civil Court.
