Dubai businesswoman gets six months for International City kidnap
DUBAI // A businesswoman who held two of her debtors hostage in a hotel room has been given a six month suspended sentence but will not be deported to China.
The 55-year-old defendant, LP, who denies the charges, was convicted of kidnapping ZH, 39, and ZL, 47, from International City in Dubai. The hostages were taken on September 24 last year to extort the Dh250,000 LP said they owed her.
LP took both to an abandoned building before moving them to a hotel room where she threatened to kill their children.
The victims were allowed to call their friend YQ to arrange for a delivery of Dh100,000 in cash, but he told the LP that if she didn't free them in 20 minutes he would call the police.
About three hours after the phone call with YQ, the women said they were freed after signing a letter saying they owe the defendant six million Chinese yuan.
