Dubai bus driver jailed for raping mentally impaired girl

A bus driver was sentenced to five years in prison after he was found guilty of raping a mentally challenged girl while taking her home from a sports club.

DUBAI // A bus driver was sentenced to five years in prison after he was found guilty of raping a mentally challenged girl while taking her home from a sports club.

O Z, 26, from Pakistan, who denied rape and molestation charges in court earlier this month, will be deported after the completion of his jail term.

He molested the girl on various occasions, but was only caught by a bus attendant on July 23 last year.

The Dubai Criminal Court was told that after dropping off all the other students, the driver parked the bus and moved to the back of the vehicle.

"I didn't look at them in the back seat but I could feel the bus rocking," said the bus attendant, who reported the driver to police.

She said the girl approached her about ten minutes later with her abaya open and the buttons of her trousers undone.

She said the driver then returned to the wheel and dropped the girl at her house.

"I tried to ask her what had happened but she kept saying 'nothing'. When I returned to work I told my colleague and the administration about the incident," said the attendant.
