DUBAI // A drunk tourist  threatened to fight with two security guards because the nightclub he was in closed for the night, a court heard this week.

S?M, 21, from Saudi Arabia,  bought alcohol at the Duty Free shop at Dubai International Airport before going to the Capital Hotel and drinking, first in his room and then at the hotel’s nightclub.

He kept drinking until nearly 3.30am, when security guards asked customers to leave because the venue was closing.

This angered the tourist, who became violent and started swearing while waving his glass at them.

“When I asked him to leave, he insulted my mother’s honour and mine before he flashed his middle finger at me,” said E?A, a 25-year-old Egyptian security guard. “When my colleague asked him to leave, he waved a glass at him as if he wanted to assault him.”

The guard said his colleague managed to get the tourist out of the club but the young man assaulted and threatened them.

“We were taking him out when he threatened me, saying he holds a US passport and that he could hurt me,” said the security guard. Police arrived soon after and arrested the tourist.

He was not charged with swearing or assault, but the Misdemeanours Court found him guilty of illegally consuming alcohol and fined him Dh2,000.
