DUBAI // An expatriate who jumped fully clothed into a beach club swimming pool then drunkenly groped a waitress has been sentenced to three months in prison and fined Dh2,000.
The Criminal Court found OR, a 44-year-old general manager from Denmark, guilty of sexual assault and guilty of consuming alcohol, but acquitted him of a charge of swearing at the waitress. The custodial term relates to the sex assault, while the fine relates to the alcohol charge.
He will also be deported after serving his prison term.
The drunken Dane arrived at the XL Beach Club on Al Sufouh Road with three friends on the evening of June 8 this year and was put under surveillance by the club's staff who noticed the four men were drunk. They then sat at a table, which needed to pre booked and therefore were asked to leave.
But when a waitress asked them to leave, the drunken Dane headed towards the swimming pool and jumped in fully clothed. Following his dip the group returned and tried once more to sit at a table.
The manager of the club and a waitress came to talk to them. The drunk Dane then groped the waitress as she was trying to explain that the tables needed to be booked in advance.
Footage from the club's security camera showed the man groping the waitress.
