A man who kicked a policeman in the leg after the officer allegedly yelled at his mother will spend three years in prison after he lost his appeal in court.
The unemployed Emirati was convicted of assault and appealed against Dubai Criminal Court’s verdict on Thursday.
Records show that police arrested the 25-year-old man at his home in Al Warqa on February 15 after being tipped off that he was using and possessed drugs.
"We searched the man and his house and found tramadol pills as well as some tools inside his bedroom often used in taking drugs. As we were leaving his room, he kicked me in the leg, claiming that I screamed at his mother to remain inside the house until the search and the arrest is over," said a policeman, 35.
The accused tested positive for drugs.
In Dubai Criminal Court and Dubai Court of Appeal, he was charged with assaulting a police officer, possessing six tramadol pills and consuming drugs but he denied all charges.
He was sentenced to three years in jail which was upheld on Thursday as well as a Dh20,000 fine.
