Two drug gangs who intended to distribute a large haul of heroin throughout the UAE have been arrested after a multi-emirate police operation.

The six men were caught out after a series of drug busts by police in Sharjah, in which nearly 19 kilgrams of heroin was seized.

Officers were tipped off about plans by the drug dealers to distribute heroin to young people throughout the Emirates.

Police in Sharjah, Fujairah and Dubai joined forces to target the suspects.

“Two gangs, made of six men, all of Asian descent, were intending to sell the drug to young people,” said Lt Col Majid Al Asm, acting director of the Sharjah Police anti-narcotics department.

“The suspects confessed to their crime. Members of the gang intended to play a role in promoting and selling drugs among Emirati and expat youth.

The six men have been referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
