A court asked a public department in Dubai to repay Dh20 to an Emirati lawyer after he was wrongly charged the knowledge fee twice.
Dubai Civil Court heard the Legal Affairs Department asked Emirati lawyer Mohammed Alawami Al Mansouri to pay Dh1,000 and an additional Dh20 as a knowledge fee to renew his legal licence.
But the original amount was Dh2,000 and the lawyer was charged less owing to a technical error.
Mr Al Mansouri paid the correct amount but was charged the Dh20 knowledge fee again.
The Legal Affairs Department refused to refund the amount.
“This is not about Dh20. It’s about taking the responsibility to address employees’ errors,” said the lawyer in court.
Last week, the court ordered the department to refund the lawyer Dh20 and to pay all court costs related to the case.
