Clerk gets five years on trafficking charges

She ran brothel in Dubai, prosecutors said, and brought at least one woman into the country and forced her into prostitution.

DUBAI // A female clerk who denied charges of human trafficking and running a brothel was sentenced to five years in prison this morning at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

JA, 38, from Uzbekistan, was convicted of using deceptive means to lure a woman from Moldova to the UAE, where she was locked up and forced to have sex for money.

Prosecutors said JA has contacted the victim, LP, 21, through a friend and promised her a decent job in Dubai.

When LP arrived in Dubai on August 27 last year, JA picked her up and took her to her apartment near Burjuman, where she assaulted her and forced her into prostitution.

According LP's testimony, JA seized her passport as well.

LP told prosecutors that eight girls from her home country were staying in the apartment and they told her they worked in the sex industry as well.
JA will be deported after serving her prison term.
