ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi police have arrested a school bus supervisor on charges of sexually assaulting a pupil.

Lt Col Rashid Al Dhaheri, of the Al Shabiya police station, told the Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum the father had reported the incident.

He said his son, 6, a first-grade pupil at a private school in Abu Dhabi, was a victim of assault.

The father said he found bruises on his son’s body and there were serious changes in his behaviour. He suspected that his son was being harmed in some way, and his son told him he had been sexually abused.

The father reported the crime to the police on March 9 after speaking to the school management.

The boy was able to identify the driver through a police line-up and the colour of the man’s car.

The man used to take the boy in his car to an isolated area near by and rape him, said the father. The father believed that the man had repeatedly abused his son, and he was giving him some sedatives.

The boy, he said, often came back from school tired and would sleep for longer hours.

The driver, who was arrested in coordination with the criminal investigation department, denied the offence. The case was referred to the relevant authorities.
