DUBAI // Two burglars who shot a saleswoman with an electric stun gun before tying her up with telephone cables and stealing US$346,000 from her company have each been sentenced to a year in jail.

The saleswoman, 25-year-old EK, was at the company's premises on Bani Yas street on the morning of March 3 this year when AZ, 25, and TA, 23, both from Kazakhstan, knocked on the door.

When she opened it, the pair, who were wearing masks, stunned her before tying her up.

"One of the defendants pushed me to the ground, gagged me and banged my head to the floor while the other closed the company's door," said the saleswoman.

They stole the money and the woman's phone and left the office, locking her inside.

"I managed to untie myself and call my husband from another mobile phone," she said. Police arrested the men the next day at their apartment in Al Nahda. Some of the money was recovered from their flat.

The saleswoman recognised the voice of one of the men - TA - who was a friend of hers. He confessed to the charge of forceful theft, but AZ denied it.

Both will be deported following their jail terms.
