ABU DHABI // A boxer punched a policeman who was trying to arrest him, the Criminal Court heard yesterday.

Prosecutors said the Arab was being arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs when he threw a punch which knocked over both the men, who then continued to struggle on the stairs.

The policeman said that after his arrest the boxer claimed the punch was merely a reflex action, but in court the boxer denied throwing a punch.

He said he could not have thrown a punch because he had a mobile phone in his hand at the time.

The case was adjourned.
