Bogus UAE police kidnapped labourer

Three men deny kidnapping and robbing a labourer by posing as CID officers.

DUBAI // Three men posed as CID officers to kidnap, beat and rob a labourer, the Dubai Criminal Court heard today.

Prosecutors said that MB, 38, ME, 34 and GY, 22, who are all from Pakistan, drove up to the 31-year-old Bangladeshi labourer FK in a Toyota Corolla on the evening of December 6 last year.

The labourer said he had been walking in Al Quoz when the car stopped next to him and two men stepped out.

"They ordered me to get into the car but I refused and they forced me in," said the labourer. The men told him they were policemen then proceeded to beat him on the back seat of the vehicle.

The labourer asked them for police identification, but they ignored his request and continued to beat him before driving him to a remote area and stealing Dh2,000 and two Nokia mobile phones from him.

The three men denied the charges. The next hearing was scheduled for July 8.
