DUBAI // A bogus travel agent who conned two tourists out of Dh15,000 by promising them work visas was today sentenced to six months in jail to be followed by deportation.
EE, a 38-year-old Filipina on a visit visa, forged her residency papers by stealing those of a travel company employee and replacing the photograph and name with her own.
In October, 2011, she used the forged papers to con two Filipina tourists - NM, a nanny, and LP, a saleswoman - into believing she was employed by the travel company. She took Dh15,000 from the women, promising to provide them with work visas and to help them find work in Dubai.
She denied the charges when she appeared in the Dubai Criminal Court this April.
