DUBAI // A man was sentenced yesterday to three years in prison for the attempted rape of a 10-year-old British girl in January last year.
The girl went missing for more than two hours after she left her home, in a Jebel Ali residential complex, on a scooter to find mice in a nearby sand patch, according to Criminal Court of First Instance records.
The victim’s father told prosecutors that on January 10, 2010, his wife told him their daughter was missing.
He said he and his wife circled the area for hours, searching for their daughter before they found her, sobbing, with a security guard.
She told prosecutors two men grabbed her and covered her mouth. The victim told investigators one of the men tried to pull her trousers down, but she kicked him and fled.
One suspect was arrested after Jebel Ali police investigators located, through an informant, his home near Dubai Sports City.
The 27-year-old mason A B was charged with attempted rape on April 26, 2010.
A B will be deported after serving his sentence.
