SHARJAH // Two men have been arrested in the killing and robbery of a woman in her Bu Daneq apartment, Sharjah police said today.

The woman, an Indian in her early 20s, was found by her mother in a pool of blood in her room. Dh50,000 had been stolen, police said.

Col Mohamed Rashid Al Bayati, the director general of Sharjah's Criminal Investigation Department, said that officers collected evidence at the crime scene, which led to them to two suspects, both men. Police declined to identify either.

One was arrested in Dubai with help of Dubai police. Both confessed to stabbing the woman with the intention of robbery. They told police they were friends of the victim and had admired her jewellery.

They said they went to her family's apartment, knocked on the door, and when she opened it, they checked to make sure she was alone. When they were sure she was, they killed her, records show.

They later led police to where they had hidden the jewellery and laptop they stole, officials said.

Col Al Bayati said the woman was stabbed in the neck, chest and stomach, and died almost immediately.

The two men have been referred to prosecutors.
