ABU DHABI // The kitchen head of a popular restaurant in Khalidiya told a court yesterday it was now cockroach-free and ready to reopen.
The restaurant is appealing against a Dh5,000 fine it received after an inspector found the insects inside its messy over-heated kitchen in conditions he described as dangerous.
At first, the kitchen head denied the inspector's allegations.
"Why would the inspector make thus up?" asked Dr Khairi Al Kabbash, the head of the court. "There is nothing between him and you - he reported what he saw."
The man then assured the judge that the kitchen had been cleaned up and undergone maintenance and was now ready to re-open. He added that the kitchen had been granted approval to start preparing meals again and asked the court to reduce the fine.
A verdict is expected on September 20.
