UAE officials have condemned sickening footage showing a mother abusing her young daughter, insisting the 'awful crime' runs contrary to the country's values.
Abu Dhabi Police revealed on Wednesday they had arrested a woman in connection with the shocking video, which drew fierce criticism from the public after going viral online.
Police said the woman allegedly hurt the child because she was having issues with her husband, her daughter's father.
She was referred to public prosecution for legal action.
"This behaviour runs contrary to foundations of social life, values and authentic traditions of the Emirati people," said the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority in a statement released to state news agency, Wam.
The authority praised the prompt response of police.
