ABU DHABI // A man appealing a month's jail sentence and Dh1,000 fine for assaulting his wife has told the Abu Dhabi Appeals Court she had bumped against a table.
The Emirati man said he and his wife were facing each other across the table in a meeting with a counsellor. "If I were to attack her would I do it in front of a counsellor?" he asked.
He said that when the counsellor got up to leave, his wife also rose but hit the table.
"When the ambulance came they refused to take her because there was nothing wrong with her," he said.
The court is due to issue its verdict next week.
