Abu Dhabi // A housemaid is to be charged with strangling her newborn baby and throwing the body in a bin.
The Indonesian was taken to Al Mirfa Hospital, in the Western Region, last week. It was believed she was suffering stomach pains but had gone into labour.
She is accused of going to the bathroom to deliver the baby and strangling it immediately after.
The body was found under some tissues in the bin by a cleaner, who alerted the authorities.
The maid was arrested and faces public prosecution for murder and pregnancy out of wedlock, according to Abu Dhabi Police sources.
An employee at the hospital's emergency room confirmed the incident, saying it happened last week.
The worker refused to offer more information about the case.
A spokesman for the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, Seha, which manages Al Mirfa Hospital, confirmed that the case was being investigated by the police but gave no more information.
