Abu Dhabi girl who crashed car while on drugs 'should not be punished'

Woman appeals her Dh5,000 fine for driving under the influence of psychotropic pills.

ABU DHABI // A student who crashed her car while under the influence of drugs prescribed to her by a doctor should not be held responsible, the Appeals Court heard today.

SH, from Britain, told the court she was not aware the pills would affect her ability to drive, while her father, who accompanied her to the court, added that the crash was the fault of another driver who swerved in front of her.

The woman was previously fined Dh5,000 and had her licence revoked.

Her father asked the Appeals Court to give her back her licence as she needs to commute to university. He also asked for her fine to be lowered.

The case was adjourned to February 13.
