Police in Sharjah have arrested 11 men over the theft of hundreds of laptops worth Dh2.4 million.

The lucrative haul of 662 devices were stolen from the warehouse of an electronics company in the emirate.

Colonel Omar Ahmed Boual-Zoud, head of Sharjah Police’s criminal investigations department, said the hard disk drives of surveillance cameras at the crime scene had also been removed.

“Using two stolen cars, they transported the Dh2.4m worth of stolen goods and left a clean crime scene behind,” he said.

Investigators were able to track down the suspects after discovering they had made contact with potential buyers.

“The suspects were then identified and kept under surveillance before they were arrested in a number of synchronised sting operations,” said the senior police officer.

All  of the stolen laptops were recovered.
