The initiative from Dubai Municipality is part of precautionary measures to protect outdoor workers against the summer heat
Cooling collars distributed to Dubai's outdoor cleaners
Dubai Municipality distributed 4,000 cooling collars to outdoor cleaners to protect them from the summer heat.
The collars cover the neck and help reduce body temperature in extreme heat.
The campaign is part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to protect workers against sun strokes.
“Protecting the department’s workforce is at the top of our priorities as the nature of work of this category requires working in the open and exerting a lot of efforts in cleaning operations. The department took into account these factors and initiated the distribution of this type of cooling material, which can be used around the neck to cool the body and protect the body from high temperature so that the worker is not subject to heat exhaustion due to high temperatures,” said Abdulmajeed Saifai, Director of Waste Management Department.
The collars are made of a material similar to cold compressors and are placed on the worker's jacket to cool areas exposed to heat such as the neck, chest and upper neck.
The collars work efficiently for 4 to 6 hours and can be reused by re-freezing the gel.
Each user's name has been registered on the ring so as to avoid being used by other people, the Municipality said.
