DUBAI // A 59-year-old Italian tourist who was caught carrying more than 2kg of cocaine in his underwear, will spend five years in jail after being convicted of smuggling drugs.
M R admitted trying to smuggle the cocaine through Dubai International Airport but told Dubai Criminal Court last November that it was for his personal use.
M R was arrested on May 10 this year.
“He was walking in a suspicious manner and kept turning around as if he was scared of being noticed by anyone,” said policeman E E.
The officer said after searching M R he found he was wearing three pairs of underwear, inside which he had hidden seven plastic bags. “When we opened the bags, it contained 2.05kg of cocaine,” said E E.
He was fined Dh50,000 and will be deported after serving his jail term.
