DUBAI // The city's parks will stay open later to cater for a rise in the number of visitors.
Mamzar, Mushrif, Al Khor, Zabeel, Al Safa and Jumeirah Beach parks will be open from 8am to midnight.
Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Al Qusais and Al Nahda parks, as well as parks in residential areas and public squares, will be open from 8am to 2am.
Dubai Zoo will be open from 10am to 5pm.
Ahmed Abdul Kareem, the director of public parks and horticulture at the municipality, said companies and government authorities should take advantage of parks in Ramadan to put on iftars and suhoors.
The municipality also said it had received a "tremendous" response to the Yalla Walk initiative, which began last Saturday and will run until the end of Ramadan.
Each step taken by registered members of the public will be converted into cash to help the disadvantaged.
Dr Munir Hamad, from the municipality's public health services department, said the initiative also provided a great opportunity to improve health.
"It is widely known that one of the best forms of exercise is walking," said Dr Hamad.
"If everybody walked just 30 minutes daily they could prevent diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, to name a few."
Ramadan, he said, was one of the best times to focus on a healthy change of lifestyle.
