A man who raped and strangled an 11-year-old boy on the roof of an apartment building in Abu Dhabi has failed in a bid to overturn a death sentence.
Mohsen Bilal was convicted of the sexual assault and murder of Athan Janjua in May 2017.
On Tuesday, Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of Appeals upheld that sentence.
It also ordered him to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the family.
Bilal was wearing an abaya when he lured the boy to the rooftop of his home.
Prosecutors showed CCTV footage that showed him walking and out of the building before and after the crime dressed as a woman.
They described the convicted man as a “human wolf”, saying he betrayed the victim’s father, who had helped him to find a job in the UAE at an air-conditioning company.
