Child killed and 23 injured as bus crashes in remote area of Sharjah

SHARJAH // A child was killed and 23 people were injured when their bus swerved out of control and caught fire on Wednesday.

Sharjah Police said the bus flipped on to its side before it burst into flames at 7am in Wadi Al Helo, Kalba.

Those injured were taken to Kalba Hospital.

The initial accident report indicated that the bus swerved out of its lane and crashed into a concrete road divider. The vehicle was completely burnt out, police said.

Also on Wednesday, in the central region of Sharjah, an Emirati passenger was killed and their driver severely injured when their car hit another vehicle on Al Dhaid-Nazwa road.

The accident occurred about noon on Wednesday and the injured driver, also an Emirati, was taken to Al Dhaid Hospital.

A preliminary report said the accident was caused by excessive speed and swerving.

In another accident, police said six cars and two lorries were involved in a pile-up near bridge seven on Emirates Road in Sharjah.

The accident happened at 12.10pm and police said there were no fatalities, although several Emirati motorists sustained moderate injuries.

Sharjah Police urged motorists to abide by traffic laws and speed limits, and to keep their focus on the road to avoid fatal accidents.
